Pandora Radio

Pandora Radio, aka The Music Genome Project, is what I would consider to be the penultimate of internet radio.

Basically, a bunch of guys and/or gals who are really into music got together and decided to analyze the essence of music, thus creating thousands of musical attributes or "genes."

What does this mean for you and me? It means you can log on to Pandora radio and type in a song, artist, or genre that you like and it will create a radio station for you that will play songs that have similar attributes. You can further tweak your stations by adding or banning different artists.

To add artists you can click on your station and choose "Add Variety to this Station" or "Edit Station Details." New artists or songs that you add are called "seeds."

If a song comes on that you like you can click the "Thumbs Up" button to hear more of the same, and if you don't like the song you can let Pandora know by clicking on the "Thumbs Down" button.

Clicking on Thumbs Down will also skip the song, but you are limited to a certain number of skips within a particular time frame. If you give at thumbs down to the same artist twice on one station that artist will be banned, unless you add her as a seed.

I personally prefer to get a random sampling of songs, as there is rarely a song I want to here right away. If you're more of the person to want to create your own play lists, then Pandora might not be the project for you.

Expert Village and eHow

Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:29 PM
Ever wondered how to make hummus? How about how to install an A/C unit or how to tell when a hen is ready to lay eggs? You can find all these answers on eHow or Expert Village. You can think of Expert Village as a collection of any of the good how-to videos you might ever want from you-tube, well narrated and with better quality video. eHow is the text (and image) based version of the same thing. So the next time you're wondering how to do something I suggest you hop on over to ehow.com to find the answer.

Things that are awesome

at 10:23 PM

In my crusade against all that is wrong with the internet I'm going to create a collection of things that are awesome!

This is all just my opinion of course, but I'm going to try to find things that are just plain cool, or useful for everyone and provide them here for those who may not have come across them.

Obviously I'll be biased towards things I'm interested in, that's just how it goes. If you have something you'd like to see here, send me a message and let me know.
